The Planting Begins

Now the glasshouses have been tidied and prepared for this year’s growing season, the Year 4 pupils have been busy researching what crops they will grow this year and where they will go. They have started to plant seeds already – Dwarf French beans, to be started indoors and planted outdoors when the weather is warmer. They used guidance from the Royal Horticultural Society website on how to sow in pots: https://schoolgardening.rhs.org.uk/Resources/Activity/Sowing-in-pots?returnUrl=%2FResources%2FFind-a-resource%3Fso%3D0%26pi%3D60%26ps%3D10%26f%3D2,2:%26page%3D7

They filled the pots and planted the seeds to the correct depth, then made sure they were watered – not too much or the seeds will not grow well.

The seeds are now on the windowsill and everybody is excited to watch when they will start to grow. Monitors will ensure that they stay moist and check that they are growing well. They are near a radiator which will help to keep them warm. The monitors will make sure they are at the correct temperature and will not get too warm or cold, using a thermometer to check them regularly.
